5 Reasons Client Magnets Are A Great Way To Attract Clients

In the special report 7 Keys For Attracting Clients & Filling Your Practice, I mentioned that using “client magnets” is one of the most powerful and effective ways to attract ideal prospects and turn them into paying clients.

Many coaches, consultants and professionals struggle with traditional prospecting because it involves seeking out potential clients and trying to convince them to work with you, which can be expensive & time consuming… and often feels undignified and inauthentic.

There’s an old saying, “people love to buy, but they hate being sold.” I’m guessing you’ve experienced both sides of this before. You’ve probably had great buying experiences… and you’ve dealt with pushy, hard-pressure salespeople as well.

Traditional prospecting can feel inauthentic and challenging because it’s based on a “push” style of marketing, where you have to try to convince people to want to work with you.

Client magnets are different. A client magnet is a presentation, a website, a blog, an article, a report, or anything else that naturally GRABS the attention of your ideal prospects (people in your target market who resonate with your message,) and gets them interested in you and what you have to offer.

Here are 5 reasons why client magnets are a great way to attract clients:

1. One thing that people love even more than buying is getting something valuable for free.

And that’s what a client magnet is… something valuable that you can share with your target audience. It could be a valuable report that provides helpful information or advice, or a practical resource like a checklist, or even a powerful tool that saves them time or money.

Using client magnets allows you to make a great first impression and begin building a relationship with your prospects by giving them something they want (a valuable resource) instead of something they DON’T want (a sales pitch.)

2. Using client magnets allows you to shift from a “push” style of marketing, where you have to seek out prospects and try to convince them to work with you, into a “pull” style of marketing where you let the client magnet attract ideal prospects who resonate with your message and bring them to you.

3. Client magnets naturally build your credibility and position you as a helpful authority who provides valuable information, advice and resources. Instead of trying to convince people, you simply give them the information they need to make up their own minds.

4. By using client magnets, you can reach prospects earlier in the decision-making process, when they are still searching for information and advice, often before they even consider looking at your competitors.

5. By using client magnets, you naturally attract qualified prospects who are genuinely interested in what you offer, and you automatically screen out people who are not attracted to what you offer.

There’s a big difference between you having to call prospects in order to drum up business… and having prospects call YOU after being attracted through one of your client magnets.

It’s a totally different dynamic and a much better position from which to enroll them as clients.

Whether you prefer speaking, writing, networking, advertising, partnering or social media, there are specific and highly effective client magnets you can use to attract your ideal clients to you. And the best part is you can play to your strengths by focusing on activities you actually enjoy and are good at.

Once you’ve created attractive client magnets, the next step is to use visibility & exposure strategies to put them in front of the right audience. That’s how you use them to attract clients.

What client magnets could you develop to help you attract more clients?

Good article. I especially liked when you said that traditional prospecting can feel undignified and inauthentic, because that’s exactly how I feel.

I’m glad it’s something that others struggle with as well. I thought it was just me :)

How would you use public speaking as a client magnet?

    • Yes, public speaking can be a great client magnet. You can create a presentation that addresses some of the main challenges, problems and frustrations that your ideal clients are facing (I call this a signature presentation) and use it to attract ideal prospects. You can give your presentation in person (at a live event), or via a teleseminar or webinar.

  4. Rodger,
I agree on the power of client magnets. They are a great way to showcase your professionalism and the strength of your brand for prospects. It is also a way to give back from the years of knowledge and skills that we have received from others who have gone before us.

    Great article!

  6. You are spot on, Rodger! Thank you for sharing your perspective of “Client Attraction” marketing. Drawing in or pulling in, as you put it, is the most ideal and powerful method to attract the right client base. Also, clients who come into your practice via attraction methods of marketing are already sold and want to work with you. For my practice, it works as a pre-frame to enhance the work I do to effect client-desired change and transformation.

    • Thanks David! Yes, it’s much better to work with clients who are already attracted to what you have to offer. Like you said, it also makes your job of helping them get results easier as well.
